A free speech lobby group was officially acting on behalf of controversial American political commentator Candace Owens in her fight to overturn her entry ban into New Zealand.
Stuff can reveal Owens gave direct approval for the New Zealand Free Speech Union (FSU) to represent her in appealing Immigration New Zealand’s (INZ) decision to deny her an entertainer’s work visa.
Owens’ ban was overturned in December and she was granted a visa to enter New Zealand.
At the time, INZ said their decision to deny Owens a visa was based on section 15(1)(f) of the Immigration Act.
This states that, “No visa or entry permission may be granted, and no visa waiver may apply, to any person… who has, at any time, been removed, excluded, or deported from another country.”
