Dear Sisters and Brothers of the Jewish Community:
On behalf of the New Zealand Catholic Bishops’ Committee for Interfaith Relations I send warm greetings to you as you celebrate the Eve of Hanukkah.
I know that this is a festival of Lights and a feast of Dedication and am conscious that the qualities of reflecting on and remembering our past are qualities that the world needs today.
As you gather to celebrate this festival, we would like to express our solidarity in your celebrations and assure you of our warm support.
The contribution of the Jewish community to the work of Justice and Peace in Aotearoa New Zealand is well known.
We join you in consistently praying for and working towards a world which is more able to reflect, celebrate and live in love and peace.
Wishing you every blessing for the celebration of this important festival of the Eve of Hanukkah.
On behalf of committee members:
Colin MacLeod (chair), Mary Eastham, Adele Churchman, Teresa Fernandez,
Sr Bertha Hurley, Matthew Gardner, Daniel Kleinsman and Beate Matthies
