Rabbi Brian Fox, who made a huge impact on both the Sydney and Melbourne progressive Jewish communities, passed away on Wednesday morning aged 76.

After serving at the Leo Baeck Centre in Melbourne and helping to found the King David School with Rabbi John Levi, London-born, New Zealand-raised Rabbi Fox joined Sydney’s Emanuel Synagogue in 1979 where he served as senior rabbi for 20 years.

In 1983, he founded Emanuel School and together with North Shore Temple Emanuel’s Rabbi Richard Lampert, founded Netzer Sydney.
