Wall-to-wall condemnation has greeted anti-Semitic graffiti that appeared in Wellington overnight but a leader in the Jewish community says the situation is worsening.

“I hated Jews before it was cool,” says the graffiti at the top of the Aro St.

Wellington mayor Tory Whanau, who has been outspoken in her support of Palestine, said, “hateful graffiti has no place in our city”.

Council spokesperson Richard MacLean confirmed crews would remove the graffiti first thing on Wednesday.

New Zealand Jewish Council spokesperson Ben Kepes said the Aro Sr graffiti “could have been once daubed across German streets in the 1930s”.
