Finding Hope: Seeking Refuge in Aotearoa New Zealand Exhibition
Available from January 2022

The Holocaust Centre is proud to announce the new travelling exhibition that will be available for schools, museums, libraries, and community centres starting in 2022.

Finding Hope: Seeking Refuge in Aotearoa New Zealand is a graphic art exhibition that will examine the role of New Zealand in the Holocaust. ‘Did we do enough before and during the Holocaust?’, ‘What was the NZ government’s response?’, ‘How have Jewish refugees made an impact on New Zealand society?’ – these and many other questions will be on display in a series of eight pull banners that will examine of the significance of the Holocaust to New Zealand.

Educators will be supported by a resource booklet that will expand on the banners while providing them with key activities they can do with their students. The resource booklet also goes into how teachers can access more education programmes through HCNZ.

Finding Hope: Seeking Refuge in Aotearoa New Zealand has been included in the Ministry of Education’s local stories curriculum starting in 2022.

The exhibition has been developed over the past 9 months, led by Education Projects Director Chris Harris, with significant input from Associate Professor and former HCNZ board member Giacomo Lichtner, Education Director Kris Clancy, and board member Rivkah Nathan, and is expertly drawn by graphic artist Roger Mason.
