PRESIDENTS REPORT HADASSAH 2024

After the shocking events of 7 October, 2023 Hadassah International sent out a worldwide appeal to expedite the completion of the Gandel Rehabilitation Centre. Fortunately, the building was almost complete but it was mostly empty.

We responded in early November 2023 by remitting our final payment of US$12,000 towards our total commitment of US$18,000 for the Ground Floor Waiting Clinic (Outpatient Clinics & Laboratories) in the Gandel Rehab Centre.

With appreciation to our members and generous donors our successful AGM/ fundraiser movie “One Life” on 30 November 2023 at the Capitol Cinema enabled us to fulfil another donor opportunity at the Gandel Centre and we remitted full payment of US18,000 for the Doctor On-Call Suite, Level 2 – Neurological Rehabilitation Department.

In March 2024 HINZ was part of the #EndtheSilence Now Campaign.

On Friday 8th March Hadassah proudly joined the UN Woman’s Day rally at Britomart Square. A group of very well organised amazing women gathered with loud speaker, on a stage and spoke with poise and emotion about ending physical and sexual violence to women in the home, in the workplace and of course as an act of terror in war.

There were over 50 events organized around the world, and NZ was the first to go online with photos and videos.

Well over 100,000 signed the petition to the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to End The Silence around Hamas’ use of rape as a weapon of war, as well as demand justice and accountability.

On 6th May, to coincide with Yom HaShoah, Hadasah held our first Bulb Planting event together with the Kadimah school children with Jacq Knight as our guest speaker. The plan is eventually to plant 1.5 million bulbs in the Hadassah New Zealand Memorial Garden for Children within the grounds of the AHC, to represent the 1.5 million children who perished in the Holocaust.

Kadimah held a poster and logo competition and having covered the topic in their curriculum the children planted the initial bulbs and will see them grow and flower and understand their significance. The seasonal, continued sale of bulbs will raise funds for the US$40,000 Pediatric Examination Room in the Gandel Rehab Centre.

Please note   Bulbs can be purchased from Hadassah year-round (but obviously planted seasonally) Please buy them to commemorate family occasions and events, simchas and yorzeits.
