Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown was called a ”shameful man” by pro-Palestine protesters after they were refused the opportunity to speak at the governing body meeting on Tuesday.

At the start of the meeting, Brown said a request from the PalestineSolidarity Network Aotearoa to speak had been declined, saying the governing body did not have responsibility for Palestine.

A point of order was then raised by Councillor Mike Lee, who questioned the decision and asked Brown to explain it.

Brown again reiterated that the governing body does not have responsibility for Palestine.

Lee responded by asking why the governing body was “not appropriate” to hear this address, with Brown responding, “I have made my decision. I have just told you what it was.”
