IMPORTANT NOTICE: Changes to the timetable for the 38th World Zionist Congress Elections

Shalom Chaverim:

Unfortunately, we have had to revise the timetable for the elections for the New Zealand delegate to the 38th World Zionist Congress.

This is due to a delayed response from the Central Elections Committee (CEC) of the World Zionist Congress with respect to the number of signatures a candidate requires to stand. The required number of signatures for a delegate to stand was set too high considering our fairly small membership pool. We sought a ruling from the CEC which has been provided only recently.

The revised timetable for the elections is as follows:

Sunday 28 June at 5 pm – nominations close
Anyone intending to stand other than Arza (NZ) due their being the NZ delegate at the 37th World Zionist Congress, requires 25 signatures from ZFNZ members

Sunday 5 July – voting opens via electronic voting system

Sunday 13 July at 5 pm – voting closes

Between Monday 14 July and Wednesday 16 July – results announced

The New Zealand Area Election Committee endeavours to keep the process transparent and fair.

Eligibility to vote in the elections is currently for anyone who was a ZFNZ member at 11.59pm Sunday 14 June.

Clarification on this is being sought from the World Zionist Congress’s Central Election Committee following a challenge made to the Area Election Committee concerning voting eligibility. We hope that this matter will be resolved in the coming days.

Warm regards,

Shirley-Anne Hodgson
Chair, New Zealand Area Election Committee
