Climate scientist Dr Jim Salinger has been named 2024 Kiwibank New Zealander of The Year Te Pou Whakarae o Aotearoa.

Salinger is a distinguished international climate scientist, who has dedicated almost fifty years to advancing climate science.

He was one of the first scientists to address global warming in New Zealand and was a lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which earned the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.

Salinger’s work has been recognised by several universities in New Zealand and overseas.

He is a Companion of the Royal Society of New Zealand, an author, and an inexhaustible publisher in academic journals, with more than 190 publications to his name.

Dr Jim Salinger is a NZ Board of Governor member for B’nai B’rith Australia/New Zealand, and was the organisation’s New Zealand vice-president for some years. He was the co-author of the Shifting Jewry 2019 (Gen19) survey.
