Far-right extremist James Fairburn is no longer in the Army Reserves and another soldier has been charged with 17 crimes, including espionage, Marc Daalder reported on Newsroom…
The New Zealand Defence Force has confirmed that far-right extremist James Fairburn, a member of the white supremacist Action Zealandia group, is no longer in the Army Reserves.
Newsroom reported on Fairburn’s ties to the far-right in June. The man, a former Army communications operator, took a picture of Action Zealandia members posing with a New Zealand flag in July 2019.
An NZDF spokesperson told Newsroom that Fairburn had left the Army Reserves on July 20, but it remains unclear whether he quit or was told to leave. When Newsroom contacted Fairburn to ask why he was no longer a reservist, he hung up without saying anything.
The news also comes after the Defence Force charged a different far-right soldier, who has name suppression, with 17 crimes. The active duty soldier’s arrest at Linton Army Camp was first reported by Newsroom in December.
