Hi everyone:

Being Jewish in places like New Zealand looks very different to being Jewish in other places that have bigger communities.

Somehow, we still manage to teach our children how to be Jewish and transmit some form of Hebrew knowledge.

This is super unique. Academia and global education contexts aren’t quite sure how we’re doing it, and we all know it’s not easy at the best of times.

My PhD research looks into precisely this issue, focussing on what Hebrew the New Zealand Jewish communities are holding dear for the sake of their Judaism, how they’re transmitting it to their children and what challenges they’re facing.

Hopefully, the insights I gain will help the creation of tailored resources to support our efforts. But for that, I need to hear YOUR story.

If you can, please fill in the below survey and share it with as many Jewish people as possible – anyone who identifies themselves as Jewish in some way or invested in creating a Jewish home is more than welcome to participate!

You can also contact me (annabel.noar@monash.edu) to discuss anything further, and you can read more about my work on my project’s website: www.hebrewinnewzealand.com
