The Holocaust Centre of New Zealand inspires and empowers action against antisemitism, discrimination and apathy by remembering, educating, and bearing witness to the Holocaust. We do this through four key pillars: Educate, Witness, Remember, Act.
We know that the lessons of the Holocaust are more important than ever. In 2019, a startling survey of New Zealanders found that 57% of respondents could not identify how many Jews were murdered in the Holocaust and 34% believed the Holocaust to be exaggerated or a myth.
Our response is to have an extensive programme to gather together Survivor testimonies, remember and educate. We teach in schools, send teachers to Yad Vashem to upskill, we translated the diary of Anne Frank into Te Reo Maori and have travelling exhibitions – currently one on Anne Frank and the other the Children’s Holocaust Memorial. We teach children to be upstanders not bystanders to antisemitism, discrimination and apathy.
As a non-profit organisation, with no government funding, we rely heavily on grants and the support of many individuals, individuals like you.
The work of the Holocaust Centre of New Zealand is growing and we now need more resources to continue that work and, indeed, extend it. We intend to ensure that the Holocaust Centre of New Zealand can continue to do its work into the future. To do so, we need a significant fund. The aim is to raise $3 mllion. We aim to secure our future.
Here’s how you can help…
Become a member for $50 per annum. Members will receive newsletters and be updated on the Centre’s activities. They will be able to contribute to the future shape and vision of the organisation by gaining voting rights at general meetings.
