Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has taken aim at New Zealand, which he says is part of a group of states that have “buckled” on the issue of Palestinian statehood.
Speaking on the podcast Triggernometry, Netanyahu said he thought it was “shameful” the way “western leaders in Britain, in France, in Canada, in New Zealand” have “buckled under” the pressure of pro-Palestinian protesters.
“Europe has gone through the destruction of the Jews. Eighty years later, that’s what they have to say. They attack the Jewish state and they give a prize for those who would destroy the one and only Jewish state. Shameful,” he said.
Netanyahu said that, until October 7, Israel did not have a consensus to invade Gaza and “wipe them out”.
“That changed,” Netanyahu said. “We had that consensus, at least for a while, until the Western leaders buckled. But that doesn’t change our understanding that we have to get rid of Hamas.”
