OPINION: Sunday, June 1st, will be Shavuot: the celebration of receiving Torah at Mount Sinai.
Shavuot is a time to re-connect with that which influences every part of our lives: The Torah.
It is a legal covenant and a moral covenant; it is a covenant that extends into every part of mankind – body, soul and spirit.
The Torah is a legacy that has been passed down to every generation since it was received at Mount Sinai therefore, it is incumbent on each of us to pass this along to our children and children’s children.
Therein lay our responsibility and purpose; the laws by which we must abide in order to live a life of freedom, fulfillment, compassion, courage and moral fortitude in adherence to God’s Will – not always our own.
It is a moral code that demands the just recognition and treatment of all humanity as being of equal value, and it demands accountability of us all.
On Shavuot this year, we will mark 604 days that 58 innocent souls have been held in Gaza’s underground dungeons. 604 days that they have had to endure starvation, humiliation and torture.
It is because of a hatred so poisonous and perfidious that, without the restraint of moral laws, the evil of radical Islamists and anti-Semites pervades and prospers.
Despite this great evil, we must never lose our own value for every human life and our responsibility to preserve life, as is covenanted. But we must also know that each individual must be accountable under moral laws.
Sunday, we shall gather as a united voice, demanding freedom for the hostages and a just reckoning for the perpetrators of the October 7 massacre.
We shall publicly declare our solidarity with the people of the PROMISED, SOVEREIGN and ETERNAL NATION of ISRAEL.
AM YISRAEL CHAI!
