As befits a professional scriptwriter, Simone Nathan has a ripper of a Twitter feed. Behold a steady stream of sharp, funny observations regarding appropriate cat-praise, the weird transitions between programme and ads on Country Calendar, the tedium of toothbrushing, and the “nuanced, intimate” relationships formed with “every curve and crevasse” of your crockery if you hand-wash rather than use the dishwasher.
A descendant of David Nathan, who founded the first regular Jewish community services above his Auckland store in the 1840s, Nathan has an MFA from New York’s prestigious Tisch Writing School of the Arts and has worked in the United States on other people’s hit TV shows for many years.
Now she plays the lead in her own project Kid Sister, New Zealand’s “first Jewish comedy”, loosely based on her own life and co-starring real-life boyfriend, comedian Paul Williams.
