From Kol Israel & Rob Berg…

In October this year is the 39th World Zionist Congress which takes place every five years. New Zealand has one delegate who is able to attend.

What is the World Zionist Congress (WZC)?

The World Zionist Congress (WZC), often described as “the parliament of the Jewish people,” is the only democratic mechanism for the voice of the global Jewish community. Founded by Theodor Herzl in 1897, it was instrumental and pivotal in the establishment of the State of Israel. The WZC is the only democratically elected body that represents the Jewish people worldwide. Its activities include funding key projects, representing Israel on the international stage, and guiding the Jewish diaspora’s relationship with Israel.

Why is the World Zionist Congress relevant today?

In the its role of being the only democratically elected body representing global Jewry, the WZC is the central forum for deciding the priorities and global initiatives of the Jewish people worldwide. As our Jewish communities face increasing challenges amid rising antisemitism, the WZC shapes policies and priorities that affect our future. We must ensure that all voices, including yours, are represented in the WZC.

The decisions made by the WZC affect many aspects of Jewish life, including Jewish and Israel education, aliyah, and the preservation of Jewish culture worldwide. By voting, you can influence how nearly USD5billion of communal funds are allocated and ensure that the priorities of your community are reflected in the broader Zionist movement and policymaking.
