Media release: Ian Dunwoodie – Some New Zealanders are funding international terrorists…
This week Ian Dunwoodie has asked the NZSIS (NZ Security Intelligence Service) to designate the international Terrorist group, PFLP a ‘Terrorist Entity’.
PFLP (the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine) is responsible for bombings, mass shootings, plane hijackings and the killing of civilians.
It has already been designated a terrorist entity in other places – including Canada, USA & the European Union.
There is evidence that some New Zealanders have been donating funds to the PFLP. One channel has been through an organisation called ‘PFLP Solidarity Aotearoa’.
Its website states that “100% of the donated money is sent directly to the … PFLP to be used as they see fit”.
Dunwoodie says, “It is plausible, perhaps highly likely, that these funds have been used by the PFLP to finance acts of terror – with the result being death and mass casualties”.
Ian Dunwoodie’s submission, sent to the Terrorist Designations Working Group via the SIS, requests that the PFLP be designated a ‘Terrorist Entity’ under NZ’s Terrorism Suppression Act.
He says this designation would immediately stop funds going to the PFLP.
“If PFLP is designated a terrorist entity, it becomes a crime to give them money. This would stop the terrorists in their tracks”, said Dunwoodie.
His submission also says that;
· the PFLP is a threat to New Zealand’s National Security;
· the true extent of the support given to the PFLP by some groups and individuals is not known;
· this means, a Terrorism Suppression Act investigation needs to start immediately.
Earlier this month, Dunwoodie made a similar submission to the NZSIS about Iran’s Terror Group, the IRGC.
The ‘Revolutionary Guard Corps’ has been designated a terrorist entity in Australia. Dunwoodie said the same should happen here.
