Creator-star Simone Nathan [pictured] serves up a delightful comedy set in New Zealand’s Orthodox-Jewish community (yes, it’s a thing).
Is there any greater pleasure in life than encountering an unexpected gem? Of course there is, but I’m not here to talk about marmalade sandwiches.
I’m here to talk about those times when you go into something with lower expectations than Lauren Boebert at a spelling bee, yet emerge feeling elated or energized.
Maybe it was a film you’d heard bad things about that went on to make your day (hello, “So I Married an Axe Murderer”).
Or a TV series you casually discovered while flicking through the channels on your remote – kids, ask your parents what that last phrase means – that ended up being the greatest thing since sliced bread (with marmalade, naturally).
Well reader, that’s how I feel about “Kid Sister,” a truly delightful five-part comedy from New Zealand that sheds light on the Jews living Down Under and a Bit to the Right. And no, “New Zealand Jewish community” isn’t a mythical thing like the Loch Ness Monster or a happy dieter.
