Warm greetings from David Layton. We’ve never met, I am a professional saxophonist from Seattle, USA – currently living in Wellington.

Since completing my education at the Amsterdam Conservatory of Music in 1991, I’ve enjoyed performing and teaching music extensively throughout the USA, Europe, Japan, Australia and now New Zealand. It has brought much joy and deep meaning to share the joy and healing powers of music with all kinds of people.

With the unexpected arrival of Covid-19, all of my organized concerts have been cancelled – and I find myself here in Wellington with the challenge to find housing and work.

Might you know of any person or context amongst your Jewish community or beyond, who’d might have interest or use for my musical skills? (or other skills?)

I would like to be creative and resourceful with this challenge of finding work and housing.

Here are some ideas that come to mind:

  • Perhaps I could find a barter situation? Where I exchange my musical skill and knowledge in exchange for housing or food? (non-musical work would also be fine).
  • I have extensive experience performing music for social betterment. Having performed concerts at senior living communities, memory care units, Jewish community centers, synagogues, fund raisers, art exhibitions, funerals, hospitals, public schools and homes for the mentally and physically handicapped. I also have extensive experience teaching music to both children and adults.

If you might have any insights or suggestions of ways that I could arrange work and housing anywhere in New Zealand, I would be most appreciative.

With gratitude,
David Layton
