Foreign Minister Winston Peters says there is a “single lack of desire to move” in Israel as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed no Kiwis in Israel took up opportunities to evacuate by land yesterday – and there were no requests today.

“So, we maybe should be focussed …far more on Iran’s circumstances,” Peters said on Wednesday. “[Kiwis in Israel] want to stay in situ. Mind you, the circumstances have changed.”

As a ceasefire appears to have taken effect between Israel and Iran, Peters was reported earlier on Wednesday saying the evacuation of Kiwis stuck in the Middle East would be difficult as it grappled with tensions in Iran.
