The Jewish Council’s Ben Kepes tells PHILIP MATTHEWS how anti-Semitism became “cool” again.
What is it about the Jews? You could ask the person who painted an ugly sentence across a wall in Wellington’s Aro Valley in May. The words in yellow paint said: “I hated Jews before it was cool.” They added an exclamation mark for effect.
Or you could ask the person who printed copies of an original poster for a Nazi film from 1940, Der Ewige Jude (The Eternal Jew), and pasted them around central Christchurch in March.
Or you could ask the person who found a clip of a crowd running through an airport in Israel this month and added a caption: “The promised flight for God’s chosen trash!” It was reposted on X by a New Zealand account that regularly shares anti-Israel material.
