They say that the climate is changing and we must prepare for future catastrophes, writes Michael Kuttner…
Some things however never change.
Take the just concluded Israeli elections as an example. Instead of celebrating a decisive exercise in democracy which is a rare and, dare one say extinct, concept in this part of the world, we are instead faced with a barrage of negative and hardly disguised storm of condemnation.
This Shabbat we read the portion of the Torah, “Lech Lecha,” which tells of Avraham and Sarah and their families leaving the city of their birth and setting out on the long journey to the Promised Land.
Today we can witness at first hand how the descendants of our first Patriarch and Matriarch are fulfilling this important Mitzvah of Aliyah and making the Land of Israel a beacon of innovation for the rest of the world.
Our critics and detractors will always find excuses to malign us but as our Torah portion promises we will prevail.
