It is not hard to discern that Passover is fast approaching, writes Michael Kuttner

Supermarket shelves have filled up with an ever increasing range of food items. Growing up at a time when the variety of Kosher L’Pesach edibles could be counted on the fingers of one hand it still never ceases to amaze us.

What was once the bread of affliction has nowadays transformed into Matzot of every type and taste. This includes organic, spelt, gluten free and of course shmura in either round or square shapes and hand made or machine produced.

Although one can buy whatever one needs during all the intermediate days of the Festival the immediate period before the Chag is a frenzy of anxious shoppers loading up their trolleys to overflowing.

It gives the expression “shop until you drop” a whole new meaning.

Here is some positive news to enjoy while the media is in full cry  peddling doomsday reports about Israel.

MENORAH FOR THE TEMPLE

Traditional Jews pray for the restoration of the Temple on its original site in Jerusalem.

In preparation for this day the Temple Institute has erected the menorah which will be placed there. It is on display and can be seen on the way to the Kotel in the Old City.

The Hebrew Prophet, Isaiah, stated that the rebuilt Temple will be a House of Prayer for all Nations. Given current events this seems a far fetched prophecy but we live in hope.
