Israel, from its 1948 re-birth in Palestine, or what was once ancient Canaan, where Israel and Judah’s Kingdoms were established, has faced ongoing challenges to its right to exist just as it did in ancient times.

There is a biblical element to this which is briefly covered later.

That challenge to Israel is continuing now on two fronts. The war in Gaza and in world public opinion as represented by South Africa’s genocide charge being heard at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the huge pro-Palestinian protests, in response to the large death toll in Gaza, being held in most Western and many Middle Eastern cities.

Comparatively, there has been little sympathy for the loss of 1200 Israeli people killed, raped, mutilated, and terrorised with a further 240 kidnapped (105 returned) by Hamas from the Southern Israeli kibbutz by Hamas.

As of 15 January 2024, Hamas’ Gaza Health Authority said at least 24,100 Gazans (including Hamas fighters) had died and 60,000 had been injured.

Can Israel meet PM Netanyahu’s objective to eliminate Hamas as a fighting group and form a government in Gaza? Various estimates say Hamas has up to 30,000 militia and that between 2000+ and 9000+ of them are included in the 24,100 Gazan deaths.

If that’s so there is a long way to go.
