A new Holocaust exhibition is presently installed in central Auckland, with its organisers hoping to establish it as a permanent educational and memorial institution in New Zealand’s largest city.
The exhibition, developed by the Holocaust and Antisemitism Foundation Aotearoa New Zealand (formerly Shadows of Shoah), brings together survivor testimony, large-scale photography and a new installation commemorating Jewish victims of the Holocaust.
Currently installed in a spacious venue around 200 metres from Auckland Town Hall, the exhibition represents the Foundation’s most ambitious project to date. Its organisers are now seeking support from donors and decision-makers to secure a permanent home for the collection.
Foundation co-founder Dr Sheree Trotter said the project comes at a time when both Holocaust education and efforts to counter antisemitism have assumed renewed urgency.
“There has never been a better time and greater need for Auckland to establish a major permanent Holocaust exhibition,” Trotter said.
