Pro-Palestine protesters gathered at the University of Auckland (UoA) on Wednesday evening.
The demonstration started at 4pm with protesters holding flags and wearing red, green and black clothing. Some protesters also set up tents.
The organising group planned to camp overnight on the university’s ground, but later decided against it.
Layan Khalil, co-president of the pro-Palestine group University of Auckland Student Justice for Palestine, said the university asked protesters not to camp out.
“The vice chancellor has sent out an email saying they support any rallies and forms of protest, but they will not be supporting an encampment,” Khalil said. “In my capacity as a president of the club, I have had to call off an encampment.”
