One of Israel’s most popular women’s sports has made a home for itself in Nelson.
In 2018 Muriel Ronen set up Nelson’s (and New Zealand’s) first Catchball league, with the aim of creating a social space for women of all ages to get together to play sport.
Ronen brought the sport back with her after spending 20 years in Israel where, since its introduction in 2008, it has become the country’s most popular women’s recreation activity.
Catchball, also known in Israel as kadureshet, is a sport derived from volleyball where two teams of six players catch, pass and throw a ball over a volleyball net.
