Dear WJC friend,
The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising began 82 years ago on April 19, 1943. It was the single largest act of Jewish resistance against Nazi Germany during World War II.
The men and women who fought bravely and died in the uprising reflected the courage of our people who have been forced to resist and defy evil since ancient times.
The Nazis never wanted the world to learn about the largest act of Jewish resistance.
Less than a month after the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising began, Nazi soldiers razed the ghetto to the ground and deported the surviving Jewish residents to the death camps. They were trying to erase every trace of this courageous act from the history books — and bury the memories of the brave heroes who stood up and fought back against their oppression.
We must never allow that to happen.
To honor the memories of the valiant men and women who took part in the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, we have created a photo journey to help share the story of their heroism.
Thank you for remembering and celebrating our Jewish heroes.
