From the NZ Jewish Council executive…

The New Zealand Jewish Council is undertaking a review of its Constitution, and we are now seeking feedback on the proposed changes before they are put forward for formal adoption.

We are particularly seeking responses from Member Congregations, existing NZJC members, Affiliate Organisations, and organisations that may wish to become Affiliates under the proposed structure.

We would encourage organisations to consider the proposals and provide a response on behalf of the organisation, rather than simply as an individual. This will help us understand the views of the organisations and communities that would be directly represented by the proposed new structure.

That said, individual views are also welcome, particularly where they provide useful perspectives or raise issues we may not have considered.

The consultation document is attached, and sets out the proposed changes and four specific questions on which we would particularly value feedback.

Please send submissions to info@newzealandjewishcouncil.nz, including your name and, where applicable, the name of the organisation or congregation you represent.

We would appreciate responses by Friday 25 September 2026.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to consider this. The intention is to make sure the proposed Constitution reflects the way the New Zealand Jewish community is actually organised today, while providing a clearer and more representative framework for the future.

Regards,
NZJC Exec
