Broadcaster NZME Radio Ltd has been censured after a talkback message containing antisemitic stereotypes was read aloud without challenge on Newstalk ZB.
The Broadcasting Standards Authority (BSA) upheld a discrimination and denigration complaint brought by Arthur Jacobson over a listener text read out during Easter Monday Afternoon with Francesca on April 6, 2026.
The complaint centred on a text message selected and read aloud by the host while discussing US President Donald Trump’s threats of escalation in the US-Iran conflict.
The text read: “Israel is running the show and 80% of advisers around Trump are Jews. A Jew gifted $250 million to Trump personally at his electioneering time and he took it happily. Rubio is heavily linked to the Jewish community and society.”
The host did not comment on or challenge the text before moving on to read other listener comments.
